Thank you to the more than 25,000 professionals and patients who have signed our petition calling for more Medicare rebated psychology sessions for people who need it.
Our panel of psychology experts, and the organisations we represent, know some patients cannot improve or be kept well with just 10 Medicare-rebated psychology sessions a year. Recent research from the University of Sydney's Brain and Mind Centre found that brief psychological intervention models, such as headspace, fail around 75% of patients, and more substantive care is needed.
We also know limiting care can cause some patients to become more unwell. The research, published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, and shared by Australian Doctor, backs repeat calls from experts within our Psychology Coalition for Government to broaden access to intensive treatment for patients with more complex conditions. It is time to dump the 10-session cap on Medicare-rebated psychology sessions. Share this petition and if you're working in the mental health industry share our printable resources with patients so they can have their voice heard.
