Increase School Kotahitanga through changing OTC Blazer Policy
The issue
As dedicated members of our school community, we have witnessed firsthand the impact school blazers have on both student pride and school spirit. The blazers we wear represent more than just a uniform; they symbolize leadership, responsibility, and a commitment to our institution's values. This is why we are advocating for our head students to be allowed to wear the blazers any day of the week, and for improved accessibility for all student leaders.
Currently, the privilege to wear the prestigious school blazer is restricted to specific days and occasions. While this practice aligns with tradition, it inadvertently limits the visibility and influence of student leaders within our school. By allowing head students to wear their blazers daily, we can effectively boost school pride and foster a stronger sense of unity.
According to educational research, visible leadership positively impacts school culture (National Institute for Educational Leadership, 2021). When student leaders are more visible throughout the school, it encourages younger students to aspire towards leadership roles, thereby enhancing overall student engagement and participation.
We propose that our school administration acknowledges the potential benefits of this policy change. By implementing this simple adjustment, we can:
1. Increase school pride and student morale by highlighting leadership within everyday school life.
2. Encourage students to pursue leadership opportunities, knowing they will be recognized and visible role models.
3. Strengthen our school's identity and reputation, as visible leaders portray a positive and dignified image to both students and the community.
Let us embrace this opportunity to modernize our approach while honoring the tradition and pride that the school blazer embodies. We urge the administration to consider these points and allow a positive change that aligns with our shared goal of fostering a strong and proud school environment.
Support us in this initiative by signing the petition. Together, we can make a difference in enhancing the visibility and influence of our student leaders.
