I just got off the phone with Mike Crider from the licking County sheriffs office. He stated that they have 13 school resource officers available to the county that are shared between districts. The district has to pay 75% of the salary. Money is the main problem. The sheriffs office is more than willing to work with the school system, but unfortunately, they pulled from their contract per officer Crider. I mentioned civilian training and in terms of resources he stated they’re “not ready to cross that bridge yet”. He did mention there’s groups such as “watchdogs” where dad‘s volunteer and are able to get in the schools and be a presence for safety as well. When our PTO‘s are raising money for things, this is definitely something that the money could go towards instead of trips to the pumpkin patch or homecoming decor 🤪
