The government established the Greyhound Transition Agency following the August 1st greyhound racing ban, which is an independent organization whos job is to oversee the welfare and rehoming of retired racing greyhounds after the ban came into effect. As said by GRNZ (Greyhound Racing New Zealand), around 1300 greyhounds need to be rehomed, and the organization does not have sufficient funding for this task. Retired racing greyhound owners will be given $36 a day. If 1300 greyhounds need to be rehomed, allocating $36 a day, that adds up to $17,082,000 needed in one year for simply the daily fee, not taking into account any other expenses. We have made this petition to demand more funding for greyhound rehoming from the government.
