The rapid progression from non-inclusion to discrimination within educational institutions stems from a lack of education and awareness about ADHD. Ignorance surrounding the condition contributes to a misunderstanding of the challenges individuals with ADHD face. Without proper education, educators may misinterpret symptoms such as impulsivity or inattention, attributing them to intentional misbehavior rather than manifestations of the neurodevelopmental disorder. This misunderstanding results in the absence of necessary accommodations and tailored support, exacerbating the difficulties for those with ADHD and hindering their academic progress.

The lack of awareness also permeates peer relationships, fostering an environment where students with ADHD are met with a pervasive lack of empathy. This lack of understanding among peers can lead to social isolation, bullying, and marginalisation based on differences, creating a hostile atmosphere that further impedes the sense of belonging for individuals with ADHD within the educational community. Addressing this issue requires urgent efforts in raising awareness, implementing inclusive policies, and providing tailored support to ensure that individuals with ADHD are not only included but can also thrive in educational environments that recognise and accommodate neurodiversity
