Hello all, thanks to the new supporters and the OGs for your support!! We have 48 signatures from 1047 views so far- an average of about 1 signature for every 20 views (and with the avg being 1 signature for every 25 views, we’re ahead of the curve!).
Wanted to let you know about the moves I made this week, and share some info I came across.
People I’ve tweeted our petition to (@auyeda),
- Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee
- Congressman Michael Burgess, MD
- Dr. Temple Grandin
- Dr. Asmeret Asefaw Berhe (incoming DOE Director)
- Dr. Magda Havas
I reached out to 99% of the people on this list because I felt they’d be supportive, based on their past work. With the exception of course being Dr. Berhe, who would (I think) play a huge role in getting this thing reversed.
I also emailed SCHEER (the EU Commission’s Scientific Committee on Health and Emerging Risks), and Dr. Berhe but was only able to get through to her old UC Merced address.
Spoke also with Pete Strasser, Technical Director at the International Dark-Sky Association, who gave me a lot to think about. Namely, that it’s really the temporal effects (flickering) and potential mental health crisis this could cause, that are of most concern. Here’s a riveting article about light flicker from OCCHS (Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety): https://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/ergonomics/lighting_flicker.html and SCHEER’s final opinion on LEDs (2018): https://ec.europa.eu/health/other-pages/health-sc-basic-page/final-opinion-light-emitting-diodes-leds_en . I wonder if their further research on the topic was ever carried out?
The photo for this update is from my random stumbling upon an art show, and finding Artifacts by Nomad, who honor the vintage Edison bulb in their pieces!! @mike_loves_lamp on Instagram.
Have a wondrous weekend ~
