Alika Atay is an indigenous Hawaiian leader who is the lead plaintiff in the SHAKA Movement’s Alika Atay v. County of Maui lawsuit challenging the ominous Monsanto Doctrine in federal court.
Atay is running for the Maui County Council in a primary election to be held this Saturday, August 13. All but one member of the Maui Council opposed the GMO Moratorium that the people of Maui nonetheless passed a few yeas ago. Atay is part of a growing movement to replace pro-Monsanto politicians with those that stand up for public health and a safe environment.
Hawaii, whose voters nominated Bernie Sanders by one of the largest margins of any state, will be fielding a number of grassroots candidates. Anyone in Maui can vote for Atay, who is a renowned environmentally restorative farming expert and an outspoken public interest advocate.

And if you missed this week’s Huffington Post column exposing how the recently passed DARK Act extends the power of the Monsanto Doctrine to state GMO labeling laws, you can find that here
