Petition updateIn Favor Of Backyard Poultry in Newton, IACity council meeting!

Erica-
Alexis and I met with 2 city council members, Melissa Dalton and Joel Mills on Monday. We discussed research we had done, data we had gathered from surrounding counties and cities as far as their city codes on poultry, and what we would want to see change. It went really well, we had a great discussion, they had helpful feedback, and were very receptive to what we had to say! So well that they asked if we would like to speak at the city council meeting that evening! So, at almost 5 pm, we quickly got together what we wanted to say and returned at 6. It was very last minute, but it went very well!

Alexis-

Subject: Support for Backyard Poultry in Newton
Dear [Council Member’s Name],
I support updating Newton’s code to allow backyard hens and ducks. The current rule requiring 1+ acre excludes nearly all residents. Over 20 nearby cities already allow backyard poultry safely. Female birds are quiet, manageable, and provide sustainable food options. I think this is important because [insert reason here].
Please support this update to make Newton more sustainable and fair for responsible pet owners.
Thank you!
