Recently we’ve had a new update via the wonderful “Make our river safer” group, they posted their updates from a recent meeting with the council to Facebook and have allowed them to be shared here, the post reads:

“Had a really Fantastic meeting yesterday with multiple agencies and the Council. Toby Jones’s Mum; Shane Gayme was also in attendance with myself. Here are the outcomes and updates.

There will be New Rangers assisting the public during the day and Friday /Saturday nights.
They will assist people to choose safe directions that avoid the River home and will assist people in getting Taxi’s home. They will be there to help in many situations and are friendly, approachable and trained staff that will have radio links to further assistance.
They will be starting this coming Friday. So look out for them and say Hello. This will be a real asset to the Town in keeping our Community Safe.

The Safer Streets Funding Bid got accepted so there will be more CCTV going in, they will also be looking at increasing lighting in Hot Spots.

Talks of a Night Bus are still ongoing and looks like it is making good progress.

Street Pastors are working on a recruitment drive and people who have already offered to volunteer via the Donkey Buddy Scheme will be contacted and put in from September onwards.

Samaritans are putting Green Signs with their phone number and suicide prevention awareness along the River in prominent places.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue have been promoting safety and doing free courses.

Pub Watch have ran 2 Training sessions recently educating businesses and their employees. They are looking to create an educational video come Winter. They have resources of Poster campaigns they will continue to share and update.

RLSS are looking for more schools to take up their free Lesson Plans and River Safety. They will be joining myself which we are having a meeting about to work together with local Schools and colleges to ensure we are creating River/Water Safe Schools in our community.

…lots happening and it is all extremely positive.

Well Done Shrewsbury! Lets keep this momentum going ”

It is amazing to see that the towns efforts and thoughts are being recognised, change WILL happen.
