Improve working conditions for South African security officers
The Issue
Security officers in South Africa play a crucial role in protecting our communities. We guard malls, hospitals, businesses, homes and places of work, often working long and difficult hours.
However, many security officers, including Grade A, B and C officers, face poor working conditions and low wages. Some security companies fail to comply with applicable industry and labour requirements. Officers may experience problems such as not receiving proper payslips, UIF or provident fund contributions, and being required to work excessive shifts without adequate days off.
We believe this situation must change.
We call on PSIRA, the Department of Employment and Labour, and other relevant authorities to investigate these concerns and take action against companies that fail to comply with the law and prescribed industry requirements.
We are calling for:
Proper monitoring and auditing of security companies.
Enforcement of prescribed wages and labour requirements.
Proper payslips and lawful UIF and provident fund contributions.
Adequate rest days and reasonable working hours.
Protection for security officers who report unlawful or unfair practices.
Appropriate action against companies found to be non-compliant.
Security officers risk their lives every day to protect others. They deserve fair treatment, dignity, decent working conditions and fair pay.
If you are a security officer, a family member, or a South African who believes security officers deserve better, please sign this petition and share it with others.
Together, our voices can demand change.
