Hi, hello, is this thing on? It’s Kelly from ButcherBox. I know, it’s been a minute since you’ve heard from me, but I’m back with exciting updates for you.

Firstly, I have to start by saying thank you. I am so grateful for each and every one of you who agree that antibiotics do not belong on our children’s lunch trays—and did something about it. We would not be here without you. The response to this petition has blown past our goal and hit almost 17,000 signers!
Next order of business: After seeing the momentum of this petition, ButcherBox realized it shouldn’t just be on consumers to make positive change in the food system: Industry needed to take a stand, too. So, for the past few months, we’ve been working behind the scenes to build a coalition of 25+ food companies and nonprofits willing to use their platforms to amplify this effort to prevent antibiotic-laden meat from being served in our cafeterias. Today, we officially sent a letter to USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins with the same asks outlined in the petition you signed.

Why? We want to show USDA that we have both grassroots and stakeholder support for improving the quality of protein in school meals.

Where You Come In: If you’re thinking, okay, well I already signed, what more can I do? The answer is simple: Share the petition with your community. The more signers we have, the more proof we have for the administration that the American people not only care about this issue but also want to see it change. Let’s get loud!

What’s Next: We’ll be keeping you posted as we double down on our advocacy efforts, including sharing Congressional updates, petition landmarks, and more exciting progress reports, so stay tuned. You can also follow us on @butcher_box on Instagram for additional updates over the coming weeks. And, of course, continue to share the petition far and wide.
