I want to start by saying THANK YOU. I’ve been genuinely amazed by how quickly this has grown. In just two days, 200+ neighbors have signed, and many of you have shared the petition through your own networks. Some have also contributed to change.org’s optional promotion fund, which helps the platform show the petition to more people (to be clear, those contributions go to change.org, not to me personally). Every share, comment, and signature has helped push this forward.

After talking with more neighbors, I’ve also updated the petition to better reflect what we’re hearing as a community. It’s clear this isn’t about one person or one incident. I’ve learned that parts of 2nd Street may be an emergency route to Royal Columbian Hospital, and that there are many ways pedestrian safety could be improved, not just the initial examples listed. I’ve also learned about another active petition nearby focused on school zone safety along 2nd Street — further showing how widespread and long-standing these concerns are.

All of this reinforces the same message: people who live here are worried, and this area deserves a serious, thoughtful safety review.

I’ll be bringing this petition to the City’s public hearing on Monday, Jan 26 at 6:00 pm. If you’re able to attend, speak up, or simply show support, it would mean a lot. And if you can’t make it, there are many other ways to help — reach out to City Council, the Mayor, or Engineering directly, talk with neighbors, share ideas, or just keep the conversation going. If you want to connect or discuss this together, I’m always open.

Thank you again for standing together.
