Update on Reese: While he is scheduled for release from PY1, we are deeply concerned about his discharge given yesterday's severe meltdown in the ward. Chemical restraint was required to ensure the safety of Reese and others. Despite this incident, and his expression of wanting to self harm the facility deems his continued stay unnecessary, a decision we find appalling. This highlights the profound lack of adequate care for mentally ill children in our province. Their willingness to discharge him after witnessing such a significant episode is unacceptable and puts his safety at risk as well as the saftey of others. We are urgently seeking guidance on how to secure a placement that will ensure his safety and provide the necessary support. We will be speaking with Global News on Monday to raise awareness of this situation and advocate for better care for Reese and other children like him. Thank you to everyone who has offered support. We will continue to keep you informed."
