The Victorian Government are using the bio security laws to hamper our attempts to stop varroa entering Victoria by trying to ban us getting an injunction to stop the movement of hives into Victoria.

A bio security law intending to protect Bees from varroa mite has been amended and may have the opposite effect to the original intention by allowing infected hives into Victoria.

The sneaky attempt added on last Monday the 18th aims to take away democratic rights of the community and Judges and give power purely to the government. Unfortunately the government seem to be more sympathetic to short term profits from the Almond industry than to national bee welfare .

Unfortunately there has been no attempts from the federal government to intervene with the states and at the moment compensation is only being paid out to beekeepers who have had their hives destroyed.

With no one compensating beekeepers for lost earnings desperate apiarists are preparing to go to canola and almonds pollination that are likely to be super spreading events.

What is needed now is a legal case to determine whether banning a communities right to get a court injunction. This needs to be a high court case so it has federal ramifications. We are reaching out for a specialist barrister who has high court experience and shares our desire to stop varroa spreading through migratory beekeeping around Australia. If we can stall the hives until 2023 our chances of stopping varroa dramatically increase.
