There is an issue in society that some people believe if your poor you deserve lower quality cheap produce. If you listen to adds eg the fresh food people you think Woolworths is fresh food. There are innocent parents who are buying Allowrie and homebrand honeys thinking its Australian. Capilano actually sell imitation honey as well. Some poor child is eating corn syrup thinking it is honey. As I am a hard working low income earner my solution was to learn how to produce my own honey. More cupboards than not that I have inspected in Australia have had Chinese honey in them without being labeled. I educate children on the benefits of raw honey and local produce so they can educate their parents. I was fortunate enough to have this discussion with Ben McKee CEO of Capilano. Apparently most packaged food in the supermarket is from China. Ben and I agree on many points but for Capilano ltd to do the right thing with their labelling will cost the corporation millions. I believe the Capilano board is divided. They do not know the power of youth and social media. I have great relationships with commercial beekeepers but unfortunately not shareholder/beekeepers. I think it's unfortunate the shareholders/beekeeper are not exerting their influence. There is a food revolution occurring because of what dairy farmers have endured . Capilano this week took the wholesale price of honey down and un-contracted beekeepers are devastated. We need to make dominate corporations victims rather than beekeepers. The truth gets shared quickly these days. Deception for financial gain at the expense of consumers and producers will not be tolerated. I am in the process of finding honey packers who will take honey. Capiliano seem to have monopolised shelf space on supermarkets . We need other avenues to sell honey. I hope the honey map helps.
