The Issue

I write this from a place of personal connection; I know there are many out there who've experienced the destructive force of drug addiction – particularly alcoholism. If there's one thing I've learned in this journey, it's that we must do more to support those who are vulnerable instead of leaving them exposed. That's why we're calling for the implementation of controls that would flag licenses of people with a history of alcoholism, to prevent their unrestricted purchase of alcohol.

Around 5.8 percent of adults in the U.S. suffered from Alcohol Use Disorder in 2019, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Our current system allows these individuals to buy alcohol without any hindrance, exacerbating their conditions and making recovery even more challenging.

The motive of scanning someone's ID should surpass the confirmation of their age. Implementing a system whereby addiction histories are flagged on licenses could help identify individuals struggling with alcoholism, enabling them to get help sooner rather than later. This system would not only protect those suffering but would also save countless lives potentially lost to DUI incidents.

Let's take a stand for those battling with alcohol addiction. Together, we can help them break free from their chains and claim back their lives. Please sign this petition so we can bring our message to our lawmakers and make them see the potential benefits of this measure. Thank you for your support and let's make a difference together.
