WE ARE WINNING: BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP TO CROSS THE FINISH LINE

WE HIT 1,371 SIGNATURES. HERE'S WHAT CHANGED.
Three weeks ago we were at 1,000.

Now we're at 1,371. NBC4 covered us. Hoodline covered us. Assemblywoman Davies went public.

And the political landscape shifted.

Here's where we stand:

WHO'S BACKING US NOW:
City Councils:

Laguna Niguel (Gene Johns, Ray Gennawey)
Mission Viejo (Cynthia Vasquez, Mayor Wendy Bucknum)
San Clemente (Mark Enmeier)
Aliso Viejo (Tiffany Ackley)
Irvine (Mayor Larry Agran)
Huntington Beach Candidates (Surf City Four):

Brenda Glim
Ben Davis
Taryn Palumbo
Erin Spivey
State Level:

Pending coordination with state legislators
Media:

NBC4 Los Angeles
Hoodline
Daily Pilot (pending)
National:

Beth Black, Bellemont Project (published op-ed in Voice of OC)
Community Partners:

Teen Road to Safety (youth education organization)

WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED:
✅ 1,371 signatures (from 7 people in July → 1,371 now)

✅ Standing ovations at three city councils (San Clemente, Aliso Viejo, Huntington Beach)

✅ NBC4 + Telemundo coverage (500,000+ household reach)

✅ Assemblywoman Davies committed to state pilot program

✅ Five city councils officially supporting us

✅ Surf City Four candidates (HB) endorsed us

✅ County law enforcement aware + coordinating

THE 5-POINT PLATFORM (WHAT WE'RE FIGHTING FOR):
Age 16 minimum for e-bikes with throttle or speeds over 20 mph
Mandatory speedometers on all e-bikes
County e-bike licensing requiring rules-of-the-road safety test
Parental accountability for violations by underage riders ($160 fines)
Youth Bike Safety Fund (fines fund protected bike lanes + community education)

HOW WE'RE MAKING IT REAL:
This isn't a petition anymore. This is policy in motion.

State Level: Working with state legislators on pilot program legislation for Orange County

County Level: Orange County supervisors will vote on a resolution supporting e-bike safety reform (expected Oct/Nov)

Local Level: Cities are passing resolutions showing community backing

Public Pressure: We're building momentum through media, social media, and direct community engagement

PHASE 2 (STARTING NOW):
Late September through November, we're launching a coordinated push:

Phone banking to supervisors (Oct/Nov) — Direct community pressure
City council resolutions — Showing that communities want state action
State legislator coordination — Working with state leaders to finalize legislation
Social media amplification — Reaching voters where they are

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
You signed the petition. Now we need you for Phase 2.

We're recruiting volunteers for three simple roles:

Phone Banking (Oct/Nov):

Call OC supervisors (5 minutes per call)
We give you the script
You just read it
Social Media:

Share our posts
Like, comment, engage
Takes 30 seconds per post
City Council Attendance:

Show up when your city votes
Speak during public comment (30 seconds)
Just be present

INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?
Email: alexguess15@gmail.com

Tell us:

Your name
Which role interests you (phone banking, social media, city council)
How much time you can realistically commit
Best way to stay in touch
That's it.

THE TIMELINE:
Now - Oct 14: Recruit volunteers + prepare materials

Oct 15+: Phase 2 launches officially

Oct/Nov: Supervisor vote (our target)

Dec: County supervisors vote on fine structure + Youth Safety Fund

2027: Pilot program launches in Orange County

WHY THIS MATTERS:
E-bike injuries jumped from 7 (2018) to 116 (2024). That's 1,557% increase.

A kid in Lake Forest died. Two of my friends got seriously hurt.

We have the signatures. We have the city backing. We have the state legislator.

Now we need people power to show supervisors that Orange County residents want this.

THANK YOU:
To everyone who signed: You believed in this.

To everyone who shared: You amplified this.

To everyone who spoke at city councils: You proved this is real.

To Gene Johns, Ray Gennawey, Cynthia Vasquez, and everyone who backed us: You made this possible.

To Connie Hernandez and everyone signing up for Phase 2: You're the reason this becomes law.

The petition got us here. Volunteers will take us the rest of the way.

P.S. — We're not done. We're just getting started.
