The end of May 2023, data research shows over 2,500 fatal overdoses in Maryland.
NCDAS Provides data for all states but look at MD.
Maryland is seeing the greatest overdose death rate among all deaths, with 4.68% of annual deaths attributed to drug overdose. Over 2,300 overdose deaths per year in MD. The death rate caused by reported OD (not all deaths from overdose are reported or accounted for) is 38.2 deaths out of every 100,000 residents. This is over 84% higher than the national average OD death rate. This is not ok. These numbers aren’t just adults. We are witnessing a horrific epidemic and it has to stop. It’s unacceptable to me that there is such a lack of action being taken. Drug dealers need to be held accountable for the lives they take and doing so will save so many lives.
