After discussion with key individuals, we feel that this should be inclusive of all genders, as many indigenous people have lost female, two spirit, LGBTQ+ and male family members. As a descent of the Sisseton-Wapheton Oyate of the Lake Traverse Reservation in South Dakota, I would like to be inclusive all of indigenous relatives that have gone missing or have been murdered. Therefore, I am going to change the initial idea of the license plate from Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR). The state of Minnesota released a license plate for this cause in the summer of 2023, however, only exclusive to band members from what I can see. So, ultimately, inclusiveness of all genders and all persons that want to support the cause of bringing awareness to all Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives in the state of Wisconsin.
