UPDATE: Cookham Cycling Path

An honest update on where things stand. The wider off-road cycling network proposal has faced opposition from the council and some local residents, thinking it would urbanise Cookham (quite the opposite, we want less cars!), thinking this was a Copas ploy for more development (Copas are not involved in my plans, we need his permission where it’s his land though but planning and pathways are separate legal decisions so it doesn’t grant him more development rights), thinking that we haven't yet gathered enough local signatures (about 50% is local) , and that The Pound section is too complex to take forward at this stage. It would require local residents in those streets to try to change things (feel free to contact me!).

Rather than stall, we're refocusing. The new priority is the Cookham Dean area: creating safe, off-road routes so that kids, prams and scooters can get to our schools and nearby local facilities without mixing with traffic.

This is a smaller, more achievable first step — and one that delivers the safety benefits where they matter most.

Please send it round to more locals to sign!

The Parish Council meets tomorrow (Tuesday 7th July, 7.30pm, Community Room at Cookham Library). The path is a formal agenda item, the first 15 minutes are an open forum where residents can speak — please come along and show your support if you can.

If you haven't signed the petition yet, every local signature counts.
