Implement a Dedicated Law to Address Workplace Mental Harassment in India
The Issue
I am a seasoned professional with a 15-year-long career. Yet, my livelihood and mental peace were shattered when I joined a multinational corporation and faced extreme mental harrassment for five consecutive months. From the first day at GlaxoSmithKline, management , my line manager, and my colleagues plagued me with psychological games and torment. When I stood up against this treatment, I was unjustifiably terminated. This incident has not only left me unemployed and under tremendous financial pressure, but it has also given rise to various mental and physical health issues that could have long-lasting impacts.
Unfortunately, my ordeal is a grim mirror to the harsh reality many employees in India face each day. In a country with over 469 million workers, workplace mental harassment remains a serious yet largely unaddressed issue. Despite its widespread prevalence, India does not have a specific law that explicitly deals with corporate mental harassment.
In light of this, we, the citizens of India, demand two crucial changes. Firstly, the creation of a separate law that aims to prevent and fight against mental harassment in the workplace. Secondly, the assurance of strict legal consequences for those who violate this law.
Taking a stand against mental harassment in the workplace is more than just a question of employment rights. We are fighting for the health, wellbeing, and dignity of each employee. To bring about this change, we must voice our concerns loud and clear through this petition. We call upon the government and relevant authorities to enact a dedicated law to combat workplace mental harassment in India. Please, join us in this fight and sign this petition.
