Mention immigration and the related issues and straight away Bill English and his Govt spin doctors resorts to insults as a defense. In the interview linked he insults NZ First leader Winston Peters as some breed of mad barking dog chasing cars.
Don't get to cute Bill we all know that after the votes are in, and if you need that ole dog Winston, you will bend over backwards, with, or without your trousers on to cut a deal.
"Bill English said the hospitality, trucking and horticulture sectors told them parameters are too tight, making it harder for businesses to get the workers they need."
Crackdown, backdown it's commonly known as a flip.flop, vested interest groups got anything to do with it?
There have been many examples of bad Employers exploiting migrant workers. Just last week a horticulture contractor was caught paying these workers between $2 to $8 an hour.
And in the transport sector unscrupulous bosses are bringing in foreign drivers, paying minimum wages, undercutting rivals for hauling contracts, who do pay good Kiwi drivers a decent wage. This drives the trucking industry rates down.
Bill English, Steven Joyce and their political party appear to be pandering to self interest groups, many of whom are large donators to the National party, especially in the trucking industry.
"Changes to the skilled migrant visa would require workers to earn a minimum of around $49,000 and require them to leave for a year, after three years."
Yeah right the examples given can you really see that happening? We doubt it, nothing more than electioneering puffery made up in the backroom spin department.
