Immediate Lifting of the Ban on Education and Work for Girls and Women in Afghanistan
The Issue
We are 178 young Afghan girls whose right to education has been stolen from us.
This petition is launched by us — young girls who continue to study in the WDI Afghanistan online education program, which Yal has made possible for us under constant risk.
Since 2021, the Taliban have banned us from secondary school and university and denied women the right to work. Afghanistan is the only country in the world where an entire generation of girls is locked out of classrooms and forced into silence. Every day without education is a day stolen from our future, our dignity, and our right to exist as equal human beings.
Through the courage of dedicated Afghan women who risk everything to teach us, we continue learning in secret. But online learning is not enough. We demand our full rights back.
Our urgent demands:
Immediately and unconditionally lift the ban on girls’ education at every level and reopen all schools and universities to us.
Immediately lift all restrictions on women’s right to work and guarantee full access to employment.
The international community must apply real pressure — diplomatic, legal, and political — on the Taliban to end this sex apartheid.
Provide strong and continuous support for the secret online education and empowerment programs that help Afghan girls continue learning and enable women to survive with dignity.
We call on the United Nations (UNAMA, UN Women, UNICEF), world governments, the European Union, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch:
Do not look away.
Do not normalize this crime against us.
