IMDb made an announcement that the Boards will be closed, and deleted along with personal messages, making social interaction within the site impossible.

But that's not the database we loved isn't it? 
Yes, a few people might get offended from broad statements and, rarely direct attacks, but when you use the internet, you agree to be in a room with a lot of people, and that's part of the package. The only alternative to letting it go, is to limit discussion, but IMDb was always a community, and no community can ever survive without communication.

The Broads made our lives easier.
In nearly every movie, there is a broad that contains information not available elsewhere, and it's just very comfortable being able to learn about, archive, and discuss a movie all on the same site, and still remain the best way to obtain a specific advice or info, just by asking another user.

Boards are at the least a depiction of what the community itself consists of.
I don't think that the IMDb community is by nature mean and distracting.
I find the people that make up IMDb mostly informative, interesting and funny, and I am pretty offended by that decision, that deems us unproductive off-putting trolls at large. As a user I am not a delicate snowflake in need of protection nor a distractive berserker that threatens everybody else, and I do not want to be regarded as one

We don't want them gone. We need speech and we need it free, we need to connect to others, take a hit, maybe give back, but have an intellectual exchange of value, within IMDb.

They can make broads optional, maybe boards can be an a decision I deal with in my account settings. They can make flagging easier, lighter, direct and more visual, so I know a troll or a bigot without having to read the whole thread, but to be able to If I want to. They can introduce a whole array of tools readily available to limit every problem imaginable, as facebook or youtube or yahoo has been doing for a decade. 
What they cant do is to limit social interaction in a site that is build by, as, and for a community, and we should not let them do it.
