🔘 THREE ARRESTED, FOUR BIKES SEIZED AFTER GATHERING

Three men have been arrested and a further four motorbikes have been seized as an investigation continues into alleged unsafe and illegal behaviour at a gathering in Mayfield on Sunday (14 June 2026).
About 1pm, police were called to a park on Ingall Street, Mayfield, following reports of a large gathering of people.
On arrival, police found between 150-200 people had gathered in the park, while a further 30-40 people were riding unregistered trail bikes in parkland and on surrounding streets.
Streets were closed nearby, with traffic redirected due to safety concerns.
A woman was arrested following an alleged assault in the park area, before being released pending further inquiries.
Two unregistered motorbikes were seized on the day and are undergoing forensic examination.
Police attached to Newcastle City Police District established Operation Horizon to investigate the incident.
Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Newcastle City Police District and the Northern Region Operations Support Group executed a search warrant at a home in Wallsend about 7am today (Friday 19 June 2026).
During the search, police allegedly located and seized four motorbikes, a scooter, taser, 0.55g methamphetamine, helmets, clothing, and electronics.
Three men – aged 20, 22 and 25 – were arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.
The 25-year-old man was charged with seven offences,
- Destroy or damage property >$2000
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (motor vehicle)
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Possess prohibited drug
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
- Three or more people use violence cause fear
- Riot
The 22-year-old man was charged with six offences,
- Destroy or damage property >$2,000
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (motor vehicle)
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
- Three or more people use violence cause fear
- Riot
The 20-year-old man was charged with seven offences,
- Destroy or damage property >$2,000
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (motor vehicle)
- Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Driver never licensed
- Three or more people use violence cause fear
- Riot
The three men were refused police bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 tomorrow (Saturday 20 June 2026).
Inquiries into the gathering are continuing under Operation Horizon.
