IKEA: Sustainability must be more than marketing – bring back replacement parts for the EV
Das Problem
I’m a long-time IKEA customer and supporter of sustainable product design. But now I’m forced to throw away two high-quality EVEDAL table lamps (149 € each) – even though they are technically working perfectly.
Why?
The built-in LED light source with a GUZ5.3 socket is **no longer available**. Not from IKEA, not anywhere else. Even IKEA staff in Hamburg couldn't offer a solution. No retrofit kit. No replacement.
These lamps are made of hand-blown glass and solid marble – durable materials that could easily last decades. But due to a missing light source, they’re now e-waste.
This is not sustainability. This is short-sighted, throwaway design.
IKEA must do better.
**We demand:**
1. A replacement or retrofit solution for the GUZ5.3 LED light source in EVEDAL lamps.
2. Product designs that ensure parts like bulbs and sockets remain available for at least 10 years.
3. Transparent product information on the expected availability of spare parts and consumables.
If IKEA wants to be seen as a sustainable brand, it must take responsibility not just for recycling, but for product longevity.
Please support this petition – for more durable products, smarter design decisions, and a credible circular economy.
