”ディッフェンドルファー記念館(東棟)が、国の登録有形文化財（建造物）として文部科学大臣に答申されました。
ディッフェンドルファー記念館(東棟)は、⽇本で最初に構想された本格的な学⽣会館であり、デザインにおいては 1960 年前後に流⾏したモダニズム建築の特徴を備え、その設計内容において国際基督教⼤学の建学の理念を象徴している稀有な建造物です。また、耐震性の確保、機能の更新を⽬的とした、 2000年および2021年の、2 度の⼤規模改修はいずれも原設計者の後継者たちによって当初建物の価値を失わないように注意深く⾏われました。
以上により、本建築は国の登録有形⽂化財の価値を有すると評価されました。戦後の自由な大学教育を目指した大学として、設計過程で学生の意向を取り入れた点も評価されました。本学では、1999年の泰山荘につづき2件目となります。
現在でも、講堂（オーディトリアム）ではさまざまなイベントが開催され、また学生クラブ活動室、宗務部などがあり、「D館」という呼び名とともに学生及び教員の交流の場として活発に利用されています。”
2017年にはドコモモジャパンにより、「日本におけるモダンムーブメントの建築」に選定されています。

また、すでに本キャンペーンでもお知らせをしておりますが、ICUの本館、ディッフェンドルファー記念館東棟、礼拝堂、図書館、理学館の建物群は、DOCOMOMO Japanが選定する2020年度の「日本におけるモダン・ムーブメントの建築」に選ばれています。

ドコモモは、モダン・ムーブメントにかかわる建物と環境形成の記録調査および保存のため、現在、ポルトガルのリスボン工科大学に本部を置く国際組織で、日本の近代建築の再評価のための活動を行うとともに、取り壊しが予定される近代建築について保存要望書を提出す等の保存活動に取り組んでいます。
なお、カナダハウス、第三女子寮、第四女子寮も、引き続きドコモモジャパンの「モダンムーブメントの建築」に、正式に推薦されました。今回登録有形文化財となった、ディッフェンドルファー記念館と同様、ウィリアムメレルヴォーリズによる建築物であった食堂、第一男子寮、第一女子寮、第二男子寮、第二女子寮は、2010年～2016年の間に惜しまれながらも閉鎖され、解体されましたが、カナダハウス、第三女子寮、第四女子寮等、ICU草創期に建設された建築物については、引き続き、ドコモモジャパンに推薦していく予定となっています。
なお、本キャンペーンは、2023年3月16日時点で57,243のアクセスがあります。署名も、2,150人となりました。

Diffendorfer Memorial Hall (East Wing) has been registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property (building).

"The Diffendorfer Memorial Hall (East Wing) has been submitted to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a nationally registered tangible cultural property (building).
The east wing of the Diffendorfer Memorial Hall was the first full-scale student residence hall conceived in Japan and is a rare example of the modernist architecture that was popular around 1960, and its design symbolizes the founding philosophy of ICU. The two major renovations in 2000 and 2021 were carried out by the successors of the original architects to ensure that the value of the original building was not lost.
As a result, the building has been designated as a National Tangible Cultural Property. As a university that aimed for a free university education in the postwar period, it was also recognized for incorporating the wishes of the students in the design process. This is the second building to be designed by the University, following the Taizanso in 1999.
Today, the auditorium still hosts a variety of events, and with its student club activity rooms and religious affairs office, it is still actively used as a place for students and faculty to interact with each other, with the name "D-Kan".
In 2017, the building was selected by Docomomo Japan as one of the "Architectures of the Modern Movement in Japan".

As already announced in this campaign, ICU's Main Building, the East Wing of the Diffendorfer Memorial, the Chapel, the Library, and the Science Building have also been selected by DOCOMOMO Japan as "Modern Movement Architecture in Japan" for 2020.

DOCOMOMO is an international organization, currently headquartered at the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal, dedicated to documenting and preserving the buildings and environmental formations of the Modern Movement. It is also involved in preservation activities, such as submitting preservation requests for modern buildings scheduled for demolition.

Canada House, the Third Womens' Dormitory, and the Fourth Womens' Dormitory have also been officially nominated for "Architecture of the Modern Movement" by Docomomo Japan. Like the Diffendorfer Memorial Hall, the dining hall, the first men's dormitory, the first women's dormitory, the second men's dormitory, and the second women's dormitory, all of which were constructed by William Merrell Vories, were regrettably closed and demolished between 2008-2016. However, the buildings constructed in the pioneer days of ICU, such as Canada House, the third women's dormitory, and the fourth women's dormitory, will continue to be nominated to DOCOMOMO Japan.
