Today, Tuesday, December 4, commemorates 270 days of Sanctuary—protection from deportation by the U.S. government—provided to persecuted Indonesian refugees with families residing in Central NJ. The church provides sanctuary as a last resort, after almost a decade of negotiating on behalf of its Indonesian brothers and sisters. 15 Indonesians not in sanctuary have been deported since January 1, 2012. ICE has released two men in sanctuary--Oldy Manopo because his Indonesian citizen children qualify as Dream-Act-youth, and Saul Timisela because his wife has an open case.
