This image was forwarded to me from one of my friends in the Pickleball community in Monterey Park. This was posted by the admin of the PB group a former commissioner for the city listing the upcoming City Commissioners meeting. This image is an obvious call to incite war against the tennis community. Inappropriate for a city that has just suffered a mass shooting?
Please join us at the commissioners meeting this Monday April 3rd at 6pm to voice your concerns about the loss of tennis courts and help us resolve this in a peaceful and civil manner. I will be there with Hoover, Bill and many others who will lose their tennis home in our city without your support. We are all wearing WHITE shirts to stand out together! Join us!
Date: Monday April 3, 2023
Time: 6pm
Location: Langley Center
Address: 400 West Emerson Avenue, Monterey Park
Apparently the PB community is not planning a civil conversation regarding shared use of the tennis court. The language and image they are using is inciting their members to show up and demand "why we need permanent and additional painted courts at Barnes Park" without consideration for tennis players.
Honestly i hate to see this animosity and rivalry between tennis and PB as I have friends that do both. I support both the fitness activity of PB and the sport of tennis but I believe they should be in different locations for many reasons. It is exactly because the PB people are forcing themselves on the home of tennis players courts that there is animosity.
The only way the tennis community wins is if we show the city that our much larger tennis community shouldn't be bullied by a smaller pickleball group just because they may have more aggressive voices and friends in city seats.
Tennis deserves its rightful place on tennis courts. Let's come together and remind the city of this fact.
If you can't make it please email commissioner Paul Duke Lee pauldukelee@gmail.com with your tennis support and concerns asap! Thank you so much for all the tennis love! It means so much~.
