Keep Wainuiomata's Recycling Station
Keep Wainuiomata's Recycling Station
Hutt City Council is planning to remove the option to recycle plastic at the Wainuiomata Recycling Station on May the 5th 2019.
Council has announced that there is little to no demand world-wide for most plastic types 3 to 7. Plastics classified as 1 and 2 include items such as soft drink, juice and milk bottles and detergent containers, which make up a large amount of every day plastic. Although there is still a demand for recycling plastics classified as 1 and 2, Council is still planning to remove all plastic recycling from the recycling station.
The Wainuiomata Recycling Station is well used by the community who responsibly recycle plastics, tin cans, glass and cardboard. We want to ensure all these options continue to be available for Wainuiomata residents. We don't want to see a reduction in services until other local recycling options are found such as multi-bin kerbside recycling. Please sign this petition to show you value the Recycling Station.
We are also interested in your solutions to support our community to recycle more and minimize the amount of waste that goes to landfill. Please email Josh.Briggs@huttcity.govt.nz and Keri.Brown@huttcity.govt.nz with your ideas.
