The funding announced last year of $2.6 million was a great start for the Hudson Pear problem in the North West.
Agricultural Minister, Dugald Saunders, stated that $600,000 of that funding would be available immediately.
This has allowed Local Land Services to create two 4 year contract positions to control Hudson Pear in the region.
A Cacti Control Co-ordinator and Biosecurity Officer are the positions developed for the community. Both are available on Seek.
We are happy to see some action being taken on this issue, however, we have requested to see a detailed plan as to how the funding will be spent over the 4 years of these contracts.
Understanding how this money is allocated is essential, whether it's for contractors, landholders, or businesses, we haven't been made aware of the financial plan for this funding.
We will continue to ask these questions for the community, to ensure the community is benefiting from it somehow and to keep the conversation transparent between all associated parties.
Stay tuned for more!
