The Issue

The City of Hoboken will be submitting an application for $500,000 in funding from the Hudson County Historic Preservation Grant  to restore the historic cobblestones along Court Street.  We need your support to help urge the Mayor of Hoboken and Hudson County that one of our most historic streets, could desperately use the preservation funding.

Court Street is an historic cobblestone alley way located between Hudson Street and Washington Street from Newark Street to 7th Street in Hoboken. It was historically used as an access road for resident's mews or stables. Today, it has a similar yet more modern function providing vehicular access to the shops on the East of Washington Street as well as resident access to homes and garages.  The lane also serves as a historic reminder of Hoboken's industrial past and is frequently used by pedestrians looking to take an alternate walking path.  Sadly, the original cobblestone remains in place and is in need of repair.

Earlier this year, the Hoboken City Council initiated an engineering study which if funded for construction, would restore this unique historic asset -- demonstrating the importance of resource stewardship and the preservation of Hoboken's culture and history.
