Dear All, It is time to close our petition, which has been signed by some 5000 people, many of whom are members of the Dutch higher education community. The vice chairpeople of the VSNU have invited us to discuss matters with them, but we have declined the invitation (see the link below). Our call was clear and widely supported, and if the VSNU chooses to reject it, they are responsible for making Pieter Duisenberg's legitimacy problem their own as well. Moreover, as a movement that seeks to promote greater transparency in higher education, it seemed to us that a discussion among a select few is inappropriate. Accordingly we will soon organize a public debate about the dangers Dutch higher education is facing, of which the appointment of Pieter Duisenberg is an alarming symptom. Together we will continue to raise awareness and fight for academic freedom in this country.
