The UK is one of the world's most nature-depleted countries - in the bottom 10% globally. 
 
It has about half of its biodiversity left, far below the global average of 75%, a study has found. 
 
A figure of 90% is considered the "safe limit" to prevent the world from tipping into an "ecological meltdown", according to researchers.    
 
And yet our biodiversity continues to be under threat. It needs our protection.  
 
What legacy are we leaving for future generations? 
 
Campaigns like our Community Group’s campaign to ‘Save Leather Lane Oaks’ is an example of the difference a group of passionate residents can make in protecting our precious biodiversity.  Two years after we stopped the felling of veteran oak trees and 87 are still standing along with Ilona the Lone Oak – HS2 continue to bend to pressure from members of the public like you! 
 
On Earth Day, you can make a commitment to the Environment.  Any act great or small will make a difference!
