HRH Prince Charles to Support Extinction Rebellion
HRH Prince Charles to Support Extinction Rebellion
The issue
Problem
The world is now in the grip of global warming with most scientists predicting unprecedented catastrophe for all of us through flood, fire, drought, disease, conflict, species extinction and climate change refugees. Cyclones are increasing their frequency, intensity and deluge potential. They are moving further towards the poles by 62km per decade so more people fall under their threat. The California bush fires are a tragic example of global warming in action but despite all this evidence our world leaders dither preferring to continue their support to the fossil fuel industries while playing down the dramatic urgency of the threat facing life on this planet. Our children, grand children and future generations face a horrendous future and today's young people are painfully aware of what is in store for them. This is probably why childhood depression and self harm have now reached epidemic proportions.
Solution
Young and old are organising resistance to this fate and have formed Existence Rebellion which on 18/11/2018 saw 6,000 blocking five London bridges, incurring 85 arrests. HRH Prince Charles has a long history of environmental activism and would be the ideal figurehead for this resistance movement.
He has stated: "If you think about the impact of climate change, [it should be how] a doctor would deal with the problem. A scientific hypothesis is tested to absolute destruction, but medicine can't wait. If a doctor sees a child with a fever, he can't wait for [endless] tests. He has to act on what is there. The risk of delay is so enormous that we can't wait until we are absolutely sure the patient is dying."
"Scientists themselves readily admit that they do not fully understand the consequences of our many-faceted assault upon the interwoven fabric of atmosphere, water, land and life in all its biological diversity. But things could also turn out to be worse than the current scientific best guess. In military affairs, policy has long been based on the dictum that we should be prepared for the worst case. Why should it be so different when the security is that of the planet and our long-term future?"
Personal story
I am a 76 year old grandparent with 8 grandchildren want there to be a decent, livable world for them and for all planetary life forms. Our politicians are too hidebound to outmoded ideas and practices so they are very much a major part of the problem not the solution. Take Australia's Deputy Prime Minister Michael MacCormack, for example. His reaction to the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was to label it "some kind of report". We need to startle them out of their Rip Van Winkle stupor and replace the "war on terror" with the fight for survival!
