Currently HP locks down some of their laptop BIOS functions so they cannot be changed or updated. This leaves a new laptop without the capability to add new components, perform needed updates, and overall reduces the functionality of the laptop.

For example, in consumer laptops, they limit what wireless network cards can be installed, and they limit the adjustment of hard drive mode compatibility.

I would like the option to add in a wireless card that is newer that takes advantage of robust wifi networks, and to be able to change the hard drive mode so I can update the firmware of my internal solid state drive.

Many other laptop manufacturers leave the BIOS open so functions can be updated, including HP on business laptops.
