One Step Closer to Increasing School Surcharge Fees

A legislation has been pre-filed today by Councilpersons Christiana Mercer-Rigby and Deb Jung to increase the school facilities surcharge fees to $6.80 per square foot.

The legislation is also co-sponsored by Councilpersons Walsh and Jones.

This is a great step toward ensuring proper mitigation steps are taken at the time growth occurs.

Thank you to Councilperson's Mercer-Rigby and Deb Jung for taking the lead in developing the legislation and Councilpersons Walsh and Jones for their support.

While this is great news, we must anticipate that the push-back and resistance from special interest groups will reach its fever-pitch over the next few weeks.

It will be up to us to dispel the myths and support the Councilpersons who are taking this bold step. 

If there is any amendment submitted to change the fees, we hope it's to raise it to $8 per square foot.
