Abby Needs Support Now — Not When She Is Older

This is not good enough.

This morning, I spoke with the Companion Card team and was told that because Abby is under two, they do not believe they can yet confirm the level of lifelong attendant care she will need. I was also told her needs may be easier to assess once she reaches preschool age.

But Abby needs support now.

She already has permanent diagnoses, significant functional limitations and extensive evidence from her doctors and therapists showing that her needs are far beyond those of another child her age.

We should not have to wait years for her disability to become “clear enough” before she can access support designed to help her participate in the community.

I have asked for Abby’s application to go to the review panel. We have now been told that this process will take another three to four months.

That means more waiting. More proving. More fighting for something that should already be obvious.

We are not giving up. Abby deserves inclusion now — not when she is older, not when the system decides her needs are easier to measure, but now. 💛
