To all:
Here are the most recent developments. Steve Goldberg spoke about the lighting at this week's Westbury Civic Club meeting and got attention: The president of Westbury Civic Club has notified other area civic club presidents. A campaign worker for Councilman-at-Large candidate Lane Lewis asked that information be forwarded directly to the candidate. The Southwest News has had a reporter talk to me, Steve Goldberg of Westbury who has also been working on this, and the City. She has already interviewed residents especially bothered by the glare.
James Benya, the lighting expert who helped Davis, CA replace its high glare 4000K LED lighting similar to ours with warmer less intense lighting in residential areas wrote our Mayor and City Council about a month ago in strong support of the changes we are advocating.
CenterPoint says that about 45,000 of the intended 179,000 lights have been installed. If you are a member of a subdivision that has already seen the lighting, please talk to your subdivision president and forward the information in this petition. At the very least, we need to try to prevent further installation and see what we can do about replacing lights where people are the most adversely affected.
Here is an article from Hawaii where there are protests of their proposed 4000K white lights also that explains the differences between our lighting and moonlight which is frequently cited by cities as being equivalent to the new lights. It is anything but. Please pass the petition on to anyone you think may be interested. Thanks!
