ALLOCATE THOUSANDS OF VACANT HDC HOMES IN T&T NOW!!

0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!

The role of the Housing Development Corporation {HDC} is to assist low and middle income families in acquiring State-subsidized housing IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO. HDC ADMITTED THAT as many as 18O,OOO applicants remain on the waiting list currently.

Notwithstanding these facts, there are many uninhabited units which are completed, vandalized, abandoned and incomplete. Countless newspaper stories will validate these claims. See the Express Newspaper report of April 3, 2O17 HERE:

The applicants for HDC housing and the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago call on the HDC to allocate these units with dispatch and to halt all new construction until these empty units are accounted for by applicants who have been waiting for as many as 35 years.

The HDC must account to these applicants once and for all on these vacant units. It must enter into arrangements with applicants who wish to purchase units on an as-is basis, once these units have been appraised and the needed works are clearly identified.

No longer will citizens sit and wait while the HDC is mismanaged and used as a political football, allowing a few citizens to acquire homes on occasions such as Christmas and Easter AND ON THE BASIS OF A RANDOM SELECTION WHICH IS NOT TRANSPARENT AND FOR WHICH NO ONE IS ACCOUNTABLE, as this means of selection is unfair to applicants who may have applied years earlier and have aged, thus rendering their years to pay and ability to pay either impossible or too risky for any lending institution to want to engage with them. 6O% OF HOMES ARE RANDOMLY SELECTED, 1O percent are allocated to members of the protective services, 5% for the elderly and those in emergency situations and a whopping 25% THE MINISTER CAN ALLOCATE AS HE SEES FIT AS THESE ARTICLES OUTLINE:

IT IS UNACCEPTABLE AND UNFAIR THAT the Minister of Housing has A PERSONAL ALLOCATION QUOTA OF 25% OF THE HOMES AVAILABLE! See the following article on the corruption found where Ministers were allocating homes to friends and media personnel as bribes and gifts.

THE PEOPLE DEMAND THAT THESE VACANT HOMES BE DISPATCHED NOW AND THAT ALL NEW CONSTRUCTION BE CEASED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, UNTIL THE VACANT HOMES ARE ALLOCATED TO CITIZENS WHO HAVE APPLIED FOR THEM, WHO CONTINUE TO SUFFER WHILE THEIR CHILDREN GROW UP IN DISADVANTAGED CONDITIONS AND FAMILIES ENDURE VARIOUS OTHER MEANS OF PERSONAL AND SOCIAL INCONVENIENCE. THE POOR ALLOCATION RATE BY THE HDC IS CONTRIBUTING TO THE ANGER AND THE RAGE IN OUR NATION, AS 18O,OOO APPLICATIONS REPRESENT 12.86% OF OUR POPULATION. THIS IS A SOCIAL CRISIS WHICH MUST BE FIXED NOW!

WHETHER YOU ARE AN HDC APPLICANT, A CITIZEN OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO OR A CITIZEN OF ANY COUNTRY WHO SUPPORT FAIRNESS AND JUSTICE, WE CALL ON YOU TO SIGN THIS PETITION. YOUR SIGNATURE WILL TELL THE HDC THAT ITS CURRENT SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK AND IS CONTRIBUTING TO THE SOCIAL ILLS OF AN OTHERWISE GREAT NATION. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION. THANK YOU.
