It doesn't matter how many new homes are built, landlords will not rent out their homes if they don't have confidence in the government's policies and if they do not feel justice is being served. The housing crisis will get worse with shortage of homes for rent resulting in more and more potential tenants struggling to find homes to rent and becoming homeless. Good landlords who have homes to rent will not rent because they do not trust the legal system is just and are afraid of getting caught in the cycle of abuse by the tenants and the legal system. Landlords are getting stuck in a system where they are giving their homes for rent to tenants who take advantage of the gap in policy and stay for months on end for free until the LTB provides a verdict of eviction which can take months and even years leaving a landlord financially devastated. The landlords are barely making ends meet because they have to pay for mortgages and all additional expenses associated with keeping a home. It is hard for many landlords in this position to even provide for their own families. Sometimes landlords end up in a position where they also become homeless because they can not afford to pay for their mortgage and the rent for the place where they are living.
If you have signed this petition and if you understand how this is a major crisis in our country please write an email to our provincial housing minister. We need more voices heard and we need a policy change. This can not be done without your support. The minister of housing has received the signatures from this petition but we still need to do more to change the system.
We need everyone here to email the minister expressing your concern. Email is below.
