Woody's Law! Change how the law see's animals who are attacked or murdered.

The Issue

On July 28th, my kitten- Woody was mutilated by a human, suffering a huge slice/stab wound on his groin up to his stomach which severed his entire stomach muscles, and required multiple stitches to close the wound, a badly damaged/burnt paw which resulted in Woody losing toes on one foot and a sliced off tail that required verterbrae removal to fully amputate what remained which require both stitches and staples to close the wound. His wounds were CONFIRMED by the vet to of been caused by a sharp blade, and by a human.

I reported the incident to the police, who simply could not do anything as it was not an 'emeregncy' and then they lacked evidence to investigate further- However during this I recieved a letter about Woody's investigation being closed, and it stated that the offence was:

'CRIMINAL DAMAGE- IN THE 'OTHER' CATEGORY'

Criminal Damage Act 1971-
"If a person harms or kills your cat without lawful excuse* then they may be liable. Not only is it an offense for anyone (including the owner) to cause unnecessary suffering to a cat but it is also classed as criminal damage if someone harms your cat because the cat is considered your property."

This is wrong. Woody is not my property. He is a sentient being, just like us and he lives, breathes and feels just like us.

All cats, and rabbits attacks and murders are logged under criminal damage, just because they're cats and rabbits, although our law recognises them as sentient beings- How is that possible?

The maximum sentence for criminal damage is 6 months in jail and/or a fine- 6 months ot a fine for mutilating another living creature? It's not fair, or right. This shows the psychopaths doing this that they can GET AWAY with it.

Studies have shown that serial killers often kill animals before going on to humans, and that hurting animals intentionally is a pyscopathic behaviour- WHY are people that dangerous allowed to walk the streets?

We want to introduce Woody's Law- a new law which means that cats and ALL animals that are harmed, mutilated or killed as a result of a human get the justice that they, and their family deserve. Animal cruelty isn't prosecuted by the police, but the RSPCA-

The police and CPS need more powers to prosecute against these vile people, as today's law doesn't give enough power nor does it reflect that our government recognises cats as sentient.

Animal Cruelty needs to be a REAL LAW, where the police and CPS are able to prosecute, and if a knife, firearm or weapon is involved then the crime should have a larger punishment, especially given the rise of knife and firearm crime.

What happened to Woody would be GBH with intent, probably premeditated and falling within a section 18 GBH offence had it been a human, if not wounding with intent or even attempted murder, why is it not the same for him and EVERY OTHER ANIMAL?

The law should state that the offender caused GBH to an animal, or MURDERED an animal, not say that they've caused 'criminal damage', nor should you be allowed to EVER own, or work with animals again.

Our law is outdated, it needs a reform, it needs CHANGE, especially where animals are concerned- Animals don't have a voice, it is up to US to be their voice, we have to take a stand and get our voices heard not only for Woody but FOR EVERY ANIMAL.

Justice for Woody, Justice for ALL.
