Macedon Ranges Shire Council will shortly be installing bollards at all 3 entrances of Bald Hill reserve (Mount St Mary's, Baynton Road and Pipers Creek Road) to prevent horse riders from entering the reserve. Riders have used the reserve to ride safely on tracks and the council will now be pushing them out on to fast roads where the risk to horses, riders and drivers will be increased.
Macedon Ranges response is that riders can use Cobaw Forest which is over 15KM away and used widely by motor bikes causing risk of spooking horses and accidents.
Macedon Ranges also say they are working on a new draft leisure strategy that looks at recreational activities. The plan states that the most popular physical activities are dominated by informal recreation as opposed to club based sports participation. Yet the report only mentioned Equine in relation to clubs.
Please also view the plan and have your say before Monday 11th September at mrsc.vic.gov.au/yoursay
They have banned riders from Blackhill reserve and now Bald Hill reserve. They have ditched the equine strategy research. No consideration is being taken for the safety of horse riders in the area. No consultation has been under taken with horse rider community or local clubs.
