Horry County Schools posted an update on Thursday, April 23:

“HCS is committed to celebrating the Class of 2020.  The HCS Board, the District and school leaders appreciate all the seniors and parents who reached out to us.  Graduation options and suggestions that are similar to those that are being discussed across the country will be taken into consideration. Options include, but are not limited to, the use of football stadiums, alternate facilities, as well as the possible scheduling of an in-person ceremony at a later date.  We are all dedicated to finding a satisfactory resolution in the upcoming weeks.”

This was posted at 9:50 PM, 10 minutes before my news interview with WBTW News 13 on this petition and my point of view on the situation. We believe they meant to post this before my interview aired to prevent the situation becoming worse on their end at HCS. Another news article was released where HCS statedba virtual graduation was now a “last resort” but is still a possible option. It was also mentioned that each high school may not have the same graduation as others.

Because of this, I have decided that I will NOT deem this petition a success until a confirmed decision is made for ALL NINE SCHOOLS to walk (basically as long as each school receives a physical graduation.) I encourage all of you to continue signing this petition and SHARING it!! Every sign and especially every share counts.

We cannot give up. For all we know HCS could have made this statement to save their reputation. It is important to stay on top of this! All nine schools WILL WALK.
