With marijuana legalization next week the media is all about this topic right now, so what’s Air We Share’s stance on this? No opinion on legalization per se, but against smoke affecting those who do not want to be affected. Legalization does mean more smoke around which will inevitably lead to more secondhand smoke coming into people’s homes, and that we are certainly against. And so for this reason we decided to join with other groups campaigning for responsible legislation in place to protect people who want to be protected.
Please join us in standing up for our right to clean air and health on October 13 and/or 17 between 11:30am-1pm on Robson St between Howe and Hornby in Vancouver if you are able. Wear grey, bring grey balloons if you can and come listen to speakers from a variety of groups that all share a common concern of secondhand smoke, be it cigarette or marijuana. We will also be rolling out signing of our paper-based petition to the BC government asking for all multi-unit dwellings to be smoke-free at these events.
If you can’t come or live out of town (but also for those coming!) please go to our website airweshare.ca/raise-your-voice and download the various files and images for you to participate from home via social media and also by sending the card to your politicians.
I’ve included a link to the global news story that aired today, and got those interested, I will be interviewed on the Lynda Steele show on CKNW 980 tomorrow, not sure the exact time of the segment unfortunately but tune in!
