Please take necessary actions in holding an UN supervised election in Bangladesh in order to: 1. Establish a democratically elected government. 2. Stop anarchy and gross Human Rights violations. 3. Prevent civil war, ensure stability and peace.
The Issue
People of Bangladesh could not exercise their voting rights through the 5 January 2014's unilateral election where out of 300 seats, 154 seats were declared elected uncontested. Remaining 146 seats saw election within the same alliance with less than 10% turn out.
The international community has boycotted sending observers to that farcical election. The opposition demands a fresh election and does not recognise the current government as legitimate representative of the majority voters.
Opposition's rights of organising any meetings and rallies are restricted, Opposition alliance leader is virtually confined, dozens of opposition leaders have been arrested, thousands of opposition activists have been arrested, extrajudicial killings continued, opposition alliance conducting cease and strikes since 5 January 2015, dozens fell victim of arson attack on transports, people are getting killed and injured by rival party cadres. Law enforcement agencies have been issued open instructions for 'shoot to kill on sight'.
All these have seriously destabilised country's peace and stability.
This petition is made on behalf of 'Bangladesh Democracy Forum' - (BDF).
