Stop the destruction of the Salmon run through Kamloops Lake, BC

Stop the destruction of the Salmon run through Kamloops Lake, BC
The Issue
This year in BC we are experiencing record low water levels in the provinces lakes, rivers and streams. This is due to the extreme dry weather we had this summer in 2015. With the return of some rain the situation is somewhat better for the people of BC but the struggle is just beginning for the provinces Salmon. These struggling stocks are beginning to make their way upstream to their spawning grounds and this year they are dying in record number due to the low water levels and consequent higher water temperatures. One very famous run in particular is in grave danger. The Salmon run through Kamloops Lake on its way to Roderick Hague-Brown Provincial Park is one of the largest runs in the world but this year the salmon are returning in record low numbers. These facts however have not stopped the Skeetchestn Indian Band, located just west of Savona BC, from stringing 3, 500+ foot gill nets directly in the path of the migrating salmon on their way through Kamloops Lake.
We the signatories of this petition implore the Honourable Mary Polak, BC Minister of the Environment to immediately look into this urgent matter before it is too late. The destruction of these very important Salmon runs will have a massive impact on the Ecosytem and the damage will spread out eventually impacting us the people. Please sign this petition for you and yours and all future generation.
