Dear fellow petitioners,
http://www.teachers.ab.ca/Publications/ATA%20News/Volume%2049%202014-15/Number-12/Pages/Doing-more-with-less.aspx
Many of you know that I hold teachers in highest regards. We are who we are in large part because of teachers. That is why it was very upsetting to hear, this past week, that the school board are considering cutting teacher positions because of the potential nine per cent budget cut to education. Actually, it's disgusting to see this blatant disregard for teachers by the administrators. To think their jobs and their support of the Inspiring Education reforms are more important than our front-line teachers is misguided and self-serving. Our children need teachers, not administrators and definitely not the unnecessary radical changes to our schools under Inspiring Education. It is our teachers who are indispensable during these times of fiscal restraints. Teachers cannot be replaced by computers or Inspiring Ed.
Therefore, in addition to writing to the Education minister/Premier/MLAs, please email me at mrgranthd@yahoo.ca if parents from across Alberta can help me strengthen our voice against the ministry by gathering signatures on a PAPER PETITION. Though I would love to see our numbers grow on this online petition, the complexity of the Inspiring Ed issue makes it difficult for people to understand and sign on. The personal discussions, as some of our fellow petitioners are finding out, are so much better. I believe the majority of parents would be against the IE agenda if they only knew how radical it is. The ministry needs to hear what the majority of parents do NOT want. We parents have a right to protect our children’s education, and our children have a right to a good education.
With the threatened loss of over a thousand teachers, the ministry must know that they can not waste millions of dollars on the unwanted Inspiring Education experiment when they can save our teachers instead.
Many thanks to all those who have stepped up so far to help me make our voices louder and stronger.
Kindest regards,
Dr. Nhung Tran-Davies
