As you may know, Calgary, and indeed, Alberta and even the entire global village, has seen a spike in feral domestic rabbit herds and colonies. This is a serious problem which we have the capacity to remedy, ONE PRECIOUS RABBIT AT A TIME.
They find themselves outdoors through no fault of their own and as a highly vulnerable prey species, are subject to becoming a random meal of birds of prey, coyotes and even humans.
An education program and a vital change in legislation (the gavel is far mightier than the pen or the sword) is what is needed. An education program is necessary to eradicate prejudice, ignorance, misunderstandings and misinformation about domestic rabbits. Domestic Rabbits are highly intelligent. They are extremely loving pets when their Humans are knowledgeable and skillful pet rabbit owners. I am 54 years old and rabbits remained undiscovered by me until this year (2020)! I believe that is because I was not ready to know them until now. I would not have had the patience, or the tenderness any earlier in my life journey. I did not find the rabbits. They found me.
I look forward to a truly productive year ahead - one in which we can mutually co-exist with these special beings - harming them less and protecting them more.
