I would like to extend a very special thank you to every single person who has signed, shared, or donated to this petition. You have all moved me more than I can possibly express in words. I am completely overwhelmed with gratitude and overjoyed by the response.
Every name on this petition has stopped me in my tracks. I have read each one and felt the full weight of what it means - that someone, somewhere, took a moment out of their day and decided that Evelyn Marsden and her legacy was worth fighting for. Then there are those who have donated, some with remarkable generosity. The fact that people would give not only their name but also their own resources to this cause is something I will never take for granted, and I cannot thank you all enough! Your kindness and support means absolutely everything.
Among those who have already signed are two special people whose connection to this history runs deeper than I ever could have imagined. Andrew Rogers - the first Australian to descend to the Titanic wreck itself, and the man who in 2000 refused to let Evelyn remain nameless, fighting to have her headstone erected at Waverley Cemetery after 62 years of silence has signed. Simon Medhurst, author and great-grandson of Titanic's quartermaster and helmsman Robert Hichens, has also signed. To have people so profoundly connected to this story stand behind this cause has been one of the most humbling experiences of my life.
I would also like to extend a very special thank you to award-winning journalist and Australian author Caroline Overington for so kindly signing and donating to this petition. Connecting with Caroline has been an absolute joy. Thank you for your encouragement, for inspiring me to keep fighting for this cause, and for the incredible opportunity to attend the recent book launch of The Titanic Story of Evelyn and meet Lisa Wilkinson. Your support and generosity mean more than I can say.
What truly honours me most, is the community that has gathered around this cause - a community of people who believe that the human stories of history deserve to be preserved, honoured, and celebrated for every generation that follows. In preservation of history, Australian history.
We are nearly at 300 signatures now! I truly believe that together we can make this change and give Evelyn the recognition she has always deserved - to ensure she is never forgotten again. Please keep sharing and signing! Every one counts!
